Syscob Admin GuideTechnical Support Tools

5.  Support Utilities Available to Users

The following topics provide details on the use of the most frequently needed support tools for Syscob applications.  All of these tools can be accessed via shortcuts in the “Export-It” folder on the Desktop or in the Start button programs menu (or from the “Tools” subfolder of that shortcuts folder).  They can also be accessed from the pages of the eCopilot Guide or by double-click of the executables in a Windows Explorer window or by running their executables from a Command prompt window.

Unlike Windows® “installers” (used to install, update or register Syscob applications) these tools do not need to be “Run as administrator” in Windows Vista, or later, Windows® versions.  These tools are intended to be run under a Syscob user logon (not the Administrator logon unless that is a Syscob user logon) just as any other module of the Syscob application.

eCopilot Guide

Although not itself a support tool the eCopilot Guide is the most effective way to access support tools.  This menuing shell is organized into five [5] categories of shortcuts (plus uncategorized) and has links to run all the Export-It modules.

Individual categories may be accessed via the buttons at the left in the main eCopilot window or by using the Next and Back buttons at the bottom of the window.  Module icons appear on each page for a category that applies to the module and a single click on a module icon is all that is required to start that program.

“Tools Repository” on Syscob Web Site

It is conceivable that a needed support tool may have been lost or deleted, or that an installation is of such an old version that contemporary support tools did not exist at that time (e.g. Syscob applications have been available since 1992—before the Customs ICS or 1-Stop gateway existed).  In such a case the requisite tool, or a Windows® “installer” for it, may be dowloaded from the Syscob “Tools Repository” on our web site.

Syscob intends that our applications be fully administrable and supportable by the users themselves (i.e. technical IT knowledge is not required to install or use Syscob applications).  It has also been demonstarted that written step-by-step instructions are the most effective guidance for performance of administrative and support tasks.  Hence, we strongly suggest that any support request be in the form of email to Syscob Support using the support@syscob.com.au address.  Telephone support is also available during business hours, Monday to Friday from 8AM to 5PM AEST, on (03) 9731 0762.
